The price of a veneer is not only the material. The sum includes the dentist's work, the technician's work, diagnostics and fixation. So two veneers with the same name can cost differently. We explain what the patient pays for.

What the price of a veneer includes

  • consultation and treatment plan;
  • diagnostics: examination, X-rays, bite assessment;
  • the dentist's work: tooth preparation and fixation;
  • the dental technician's work in the laboratory;
  • the material: composite or ceramic;
  • temporary restorations for the fabrication period.

Every item has its own cost. When a clinic quotes a price "per veneer", it is worth asking whether all stages are included.

The difference between clinics is often exactly in the scope of the package. One includes fixation, another bills it separately. So the final figures are hard to compare.

Planning starts with photographs and a bite analysis. The dentist models the future shape so the patient sees the result before work begins.

Tooth preparation also has a cost. It takes the dentist's time and requires consumables. In cheap offers this stage is sometimes skipped.

Diagnostics are needed so that a veneer does not cover caries or a bite problem. Without them the plan may be incomplete.

Composite veneers: from 5,000 UAH

The dentist models a composite veneer from a light-cured material directly on the tooth. The work often takes one visit and does not need a laboratory.

That is why the price is lower. Composite suits small defects well: a chip, a gap, slight unevenness. The material can be added to or polished without removal.

There are limits too. Composite dulls over time and absorbs pigments. Over a large smile zone it looks less natural than ceramic.

Composite is convenient when one or two teeth need a quick fix. The result is visible at once, without a laboratory stage. If the patient is unsure about the shape, composite lets them test the decision.

The limits also concern load. On chewing teeth a composite veneer wears faster, so it is more often placed on front teeth.

Polishing every few months brings the shine back. It is a simple procedure that extends how the restoration looks.

Ceramic veneers: from 18,000 UAH

A dental technician makes a ceramic veneer from impressions or a scan. The laboratory stage and the material form most of the price.

Ceramic transmits the translucency of enamel and does not change colour over time. It is biocompatible with the gums. The work takes two visits: preparation and fixation.

The price rises if individual application of ceramic layers is needed. Such a veneer reproduces the colour of neighbouring teeth more precisely.

The price difference reflects a difference in costs. Composite is cheaper because it has no laboratory stage. Ceramic is more expensive because a technician makes it individually.

How many teeth are needed

The price is counted per tooth. So the total depends on the scope of work. One veneer covers a local defect. The smile zone is usually 6-8 teeth.

Sometimes the patient wants two veneers while the dentist suggests more. The reason is the colour and shape of neighbouring teeth. Two veneers against teeth of a different shade are noticeable.

It also happens the other way round: whitening and hygiene are enough. The dentist suggests a smaller scope if the enamel condition allows.

Hidden costs worth clarifying

  • caries treatment before prosthetics;
  • professional hygiene before the work;
  • temporary veneers;
  • replacement of old crowns or fillings in the zone;
  • orthodontic treatment if there is crowding;
  • repeat visits for correction.

These items are not always needed. But it is better to know about them before the start than in the middle of treatment.

Ask separately whether fixation is included in the price of a veneer. Some price lists show only the laboratory stage.

How to read a price list

The word "from" means the minimum price for the basic option. The total may be higher because of complexity or additional stages.

Check three things: whether the price is per tooth or for the whole scope, whether impressions and fixation are included, and whether the consultation is a separate service.

Compare offers by the full treatment plan, not by a single figure. A cheaper veneer with extra charges may end up more expensive.

Common mistakes when choosing

The first mistake is to look only at the price per tooth. The patient sees a figure in an ad, and at the consultation it turns out that preparation, caries treatment and hygiene are needed. The total differs several times. This is not a deception but a different scope of work that is visible only after an examination.

The second is to place veneers without treating the gums. Inflammation under the veneer progresses, and the restoration has to be removed. First hygiene and therapy, then aesthetics. This order saves both teeth and money.

The third is to expect a perfectly white colour. A veneer is matched to the face, not to a photo from social media. A row that is too white looks artificial and catches the eye even from a distance.

The fourth is to plan the work a week before a holiday. The laboratory stage needs time, and correction after fixation is also possible. It is better to have a margin of two or three weeks.

The fifth is not to ask about the warranty terms. They differ: one clinic replaces the restoration, another offers a repair. This is worth knowing before treatment, not after a chip.

The sixth is not to discuss habits. Bruxism, smoking and hard food affect the lifespan. The dentist may recommend a protective splint or another material.
