How much teeth cleaning costs and what the price includes
22.10.2026 · 5 min read
Professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar where a brush cannot reach. The price depends on the condition of the teeth, not only on the name of the procedure. We explain what complex hygiene includes and what the patient pays for.
What complex cleaning includes
- examination and assessment of the gums;
- ultrasonic tartar removal;
- Air Flow cleaning for pigmentation;
- polishing of the surfaces;
- enamel fluoridation;
- home care recommendations.
This is the basic set. In some clinics fluoridation is paid separately.
Air Flow does not replace ultrasound. Ultrasound removes hard tartar, while the air-powder mixture removes soft plaque and pigment.
Complex hygiene takes about an hour. The exact time depends on the amount of plaque and the condition of the gums.
After the procedure the doctor may schedule an additional visit. Sometimes the treatment must be repeated in a problem area.
Fluoridation strengthens enamel after tartar removal. It does not replace caries treatment.
The tooth surfaces become smooth after treatment. Plaque builds up on them more slowly.
The doctor shows the problem areas in a mirror. This way the patient understands where to brush more carefully.
Complex hygiene does not need general anaesthesia. If needed, topical anaesthesia is enough.
Stages of the procedure
First the doctor examines the oral cavity. They assess the amount of tartar, the condition of the gums and the presence of caries.
Then the tartar is removed with an ultrasonic device. The tip works with water, so there is almost no dust.
Then the pigmented areas are cleaned with Air Flow. The mixture is sprayed onto the tooth surface under pressure.
After that the doctor polishes the enamel with paste and applies a fluoride product. At the end they explain how to brush teeth at home.
Why prices differ
- the amount and density of tartar;
- heavy pigmentation from coffee or tobacco;
- gum inflammation;
- braces or implants;
- the number of teeth;
- the need for additional procedures.
Cleaning with braces takes more time. There are many hard-to-reach places around the brackets.
Implants also need separate instruments. Metal cannot be treated the same way as enamel.
Cleaning prices in Irpin
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Consultation | from 500 UAH |
| Complex hygiene | from 2,500 UAH |
| Air Flow cleaning | from 2,500 UAH |

The doctor gives the exact amount after the examination. The full price list is on the prices page.
The price may change if treatment under the gums is needed. Deep pockets require additional time.
Does it hurt
The procedure is usually tolerable. Discomfort occurs near the tooth necks and in areas of gum inflammation.
If needed, the doctor uses local anaesthesia. This is discussed before the start.
You can eat before the procedure. There are almost no restrictions, except in cases with anaesthesia.
After cleaning there may be brief sensitivity to cold. It passes in a few days.
The water during cleaning carries away heated plaque. This reduces discomfort.
The doctor may offer a painkiller in advance. It is taken before the procedure, not after.
Do not hesitate to ask for a break. The procedure does not require heroism.
Do not plan heavy tasks after cleaning. Sometimes you just want to rest.
How often to do it
The basic interval is once every 6 months. With braces, smoking or a tendency to tartar - more often.
The frequency depends on how fast plaque forms. The doctor sets it after the examination.
Children's cleaning sometimes takes several short visits. This is about adaptation, not complexity.
For teenagers with braces the interval is shortened to 3-4 months.
After whitening, cleaning is planned for later. The doctor will advise the interval.
Regular hygiene is cheaper than treating complications. Tartar destroys the gums and causes recession.
After a course of gum treatment the interval may be shorter. The doctor schedules maintenance visits.
Pregnant patients should tell the doctor about their condition. Planned hygiene is usually done in the second trimester. This is not an urgent procedure, so the date can be moved.
What is not included in the price
- caries treatment;
- treatment of gum disease;
- whitening;
- restorations;
- X-rays and diagnostics when indicated.
If the doctor sees caries during cleaning, they offer a separate visit. Treatment is not included in the price of hygiene.
If there is caries, cleaning is not cancelled. On the contrary, hygiene is needed before treatment.
The procedure also suits pregnant patients and children. But the doctor must be told about the condition.
Book in advance if you have braces. Such visits are planned to be longer.
Home care after cleaning
In the first days the enamel is more sensitive. So the doctor advises avoiding very cold, sour and hot food. This is temporary and passes.
Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes. Use a medium-hard brush and a paste without coarse abrasives.
Clean the spaces between the teeth with floss or an interdental brush. That is where plaque most often remains.
An irrigator helps but does not replace mechanical cleaning. It washes away residues, not biofilm.
Replace the brush every three months. After an illness it is better to do it immediately.
When a consultation is needed
Book an appointment if the gums bleed when brushing. Blood can be a sign of inflammation, not a normal finding.
Persistent bad breath, loose teeth or pain when chewing are also reasons to come in. These symptoms need an examination.
Do not postpone the visit if tartar is visible near the gums. The longer it stays there, the harder it is to restore the tissues. Early hygiene is always simpler than treatment.
Bleeding after the procedure may persist for a few days. If it lasts longer, an examination is needed.
Does cleaning replace home care
No. Professional cleaning removes what has accumulated. Home care keeps plaque from returning quickly.
Without daily brushing tartar forms again within a few months. Hygiene at the clinic does not compensate for neglect at home.
More about the purpose of the procedure is in the article teeth cleaning: why and how often. About aftercare following whitening - in the material the white diet after whitening.
The contents of the procedure are described on the professional hygiene page. All services in this area are in the hygiene and aesthetics section, and separately - Air Flow cleaning.
